ORLANDO, Fla. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis team closed out its spring trip in impressive fashion Wednesday morning, as the Cardinals cruised to a 9-0 nonconference win over Adrian.
"This was a great way for the ladies to finish up spring break," said Saint Mary's coach
Jeff Halberg. "There was solid tennis played from all the players."
Laura Sonday and
Colleen Lois (Green Bay, Wis.) were virtually untouchable for the Cardinals, as the duo combined for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while Lois posted back-to-back 6-0 wins at No. 2 singles and Sonday added a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1.
Julia Boeve (St. James, Minn.)—who teamed with
Ashley Frederickson (St. James, Minn.) for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles—did not lose a game in winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while
Sheyenne Bauer (Cannon Falls, Minn.) and
Marissa Kinzer (Aitkin, Minn.) added straight-set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, and
Summer Lardy (Fairmont, Minn.) rebounded from a 6-0, second-set loss to win 7-5, 0-6, 10-8 at No. 6.
Kinzer and
Cassandra Barr (Eau Claire, Wis.) accounted for the Cardinals' other win, posting an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.
The Cardinals (5-6 overall) return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on March 9, returning to the Winona Tennis Center for a 6 p.m. showdown with unbeaten St. Thomas.
