WINONA, Minn. — Fourteen innings, five hits, zero earned runs, and 13 strikeouts—now that's what you call making a memorable first impression.

James Green (East Bethel, Minn.) was virtually untouchable in his first two collegiate starts for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota baseball team during the Cardinals' 10-game spring trip to Auburndale, Fla., last week.

And Green's efforts did not go unnoticed, as the freshman right-hander was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Green made his collegiate debut last Monday against Milwaukee School of Engineering, throwing seven innings of shutout ball in a no-decision. He did not walk a batter and struck out five in a game Saint Mary's won 2-0 in 10 innings.

The hard-throwing freshman was back on the mound last Saturday, posting his second straight seven-inning effort—again in a no-decision, as Saint Mary's dropped a 3-2, eight-inning decision to Mount Union. Green allowed solo runs in the second and seventh innings against the Raiders—both unearned—and struck out eight, without walking a batter for the second consecutive start.

The Cardinals, who finished 4-6 on their 10-game spring trip, are scheduled to return to action—weather permitting—on March 16-17, squaring off against Aurora, Wheaton (Ill.), and Alma in Carol Stream, Ill.
