MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's hockey team, coming off a 6-3 loss to the Cobbers Friday evening, complete their two-game Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference against Concordia Saturday, as the team teams square off for a 2 p.m. contest at the Moorhead Sports Center.

Last Action: The Cardinals gave up three third-period goals — two on the powerplay and one shorthanded — as Concordia broke open a 3-2 game en route to a 6-3 victory Friday in Moorhead, Minn.

A Year Ago: The Cardinals took three of a possible four points against the Cobbers a year ago in Winona Minn., beating Concordia 6-5 in overtime on Friday, then following that up with a 3-3 tie on Saturday.

November 21, 2008: The Cardinals got the game-winning goal from Andy Roberts 1:45 into overtime, as SMU outlasted the Cobbers 6-5 at the SMU Ice Arena.

November 22, 2008: SMU rallied from a 2-0 first-period deficit, scoring three times in the second period en route to a 3-3 overtime tie against the Cobbers at the SMU Ice Arena.

Morgan Shepherd (Brainerd, Minn.) extended his point streak to three straight with his second goal of the season in Friday's loss vs. Concordia. Shepherd scored SMU's lone goal vs. UW-Stout a on Nov. 6, then added two assists in last Saturday's 5-2 loss at St. Olaf. … Eric Tenvoorde (St. Cloud, Minn.) netted his first goal of the season vs. the Cobbers, while Mike Glaesmer (Traverse City, Mich.) collected his second goal of the season with 39 seconds remaining in regulation. … Anthony Bohn (Spring Hill, Fla.) and Glaesmer netted SMU's two second-period goals vs. St. Olaf last Saturday evening. … The line of Bohn, Glaesmer and Shepherd has now scored five of SMU's last six goals. … Bohn — who assisted on two of SMU's three goals Friday to push his team-leading assist total to four — and Shepherd now share the team lead in points with five. … SMU's eight goals this season have been scored by six different players. … Eleven of the 25 goals allowed by the Cardinals have been on special teams (8 powerplay and 3 shorthanded). With the Cobbers' two shorthanded goals Friday, SMU has surrendered three shorthanded goals in their last two games. … SMU has scored five of its eight goals in the second period. … The Cardinals' two games vs. Concordia this weekend are the fifth and sixth of seven straight road games to open the season for SMU. Concordia Cobber Notes: With their 6-3 win over SMU Friday, the Cobbers snapped a season-opening four-game losing streak. … Shawn Goos and Nick Thielen each scored two goals vs. the Cardinals Friday. … Pat Deitz, who scored all three of Concordia's goals at the MIAC Hockey Showcase, scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season — on the powerplay — against St. Scholastica last Saturday. … Jacob Vatnsdal, who made 53 saves last weekend — coming on in relief of starter Ole Bronbo to stop 24 of the 26 shots he faced vs. UW-Superior, then kicking out 29 of 33 St. Scholastica shots last Saturday — finished with 32 saves vs. Saint Mary's Friday. … The Cobbers have allowed 21 goals through five games — seven in the first, seven in the second and seven in the third.
