MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — It was the last time
Grace VanBeest (Flossmoor, Ill.) would compete as a member of the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota swimming and diving team—and the Cardinal made the most of her swan song.
Make that swan songs.
VanBeest clocked a time of 2:34.52 in the 200 breaststroke preliminaries Saturday morning to earn a spot in the consolation final during the final day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
And in that consolation final—her last race as a Cardinal—VanBeest maintained her hold on 16
th place, stopping the clock in 2:34.48.
Kizzy Bell (St. Paul, Minn.) narrowly missed joining VanBeest in the 200 breaststroke consolation finale, finishing 17
th with a career-best time of 2:34.95.
Hannah Emeott (Chisago City, Minn.) chipped in her best time of the season in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall in 1;05.02, while
Chloe Morrison (Ashkum, Ill.) and
Zoe Schaetz (Winona, Minn.) added career-best times of 20:32.80 and 20.:54..62, respectively, in the 1,650 freestyle.
Ailie Davidson (Duluth, Minn.) also chipped in a 10
th-place showing in the one-meter diving, finishing with 355.55.
On the men's side, Nick Sawchuk (Rochester, Minn.) and Corey Piper (Winona, Minn.) recorded times of 54.28 and 56.31, respectively—both career bests—in the 100 freestyle, and Lucas Gerads (St. Cloud, Minn.) shaved five seconds off his season-best in the 200 butterfly, touching the wall in 2:10.60.
